Spread the joy of spring with these May Day Baskets! This is a great activity to do with the kids, and you can learn a fun way to weave your own baskets!

Here are the supplies needed for this craft:

  • RoseArt Glue Stick
  • Multiple Colors of Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Ruler

Start by cutting out several strips of multicolored construction paper. They must be all the same width (about 1” wide).

Arrange six strips side by side on a flat surface. (Note: The more strips you have, the bigger the basket you will weave.)

Next, begin weaving the strips in the opposite direction. To make it easier, we placed a small piece of tape on the edges of the strips.

Hint: If you want to weave a square basket, weave the same amount of strips in each direction (in this case, 6). If you want a rectangular basket, weave more then 6 strips. Have fun with it!

Fold up the ends of the strips to form the sides of your basket. We used a ruler to help fold a crisp line.

Start to weave strips into the sides of the basket. As you start, use a small piece of tape to secure the strips in place.

Weave the horizontal strips around the vertical strips, then, use a second piece of tape at the end to secure in place. For a basket this size, weave two rows of strips to complete.

Once you are done weaving the sides, fold over the loose ends and glue with your RoseArt Glue Stick.

Finally, cut one more strip of paper to create the handle.

And here is your May Day Baskets! Share with friends, neighbors and family members. Be sure to fill the basket with a nice treat or beautiful flowers! Enjoy!
