Before you throw away your old, broken or woron down crayons, try this simple activity that will recycle your old crayons and create fun pumpkin-shaped crayons!

You will only need a few items for this activity:

–          Worn down or broken crayons

–          A silicone mold with your favorite design*

–          A working oven

*I absolutely love the fall season, so I couldn’t resist buying pumpkin shaped silicone molds when I was shopping at my favorite craft store! Also, a muffin tin with liners works great too!

Once you have all your items, place the crayons to fit in the silicone mold. Make sure to peel all the paper off of the crayons. You can choose to use a single color, or you can mix various colors within the silicone mold. Be creative!

Now, turn the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the molds into the oven and keep a close eye on the wax.

The crayons will ‘bake’ for approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on your oven. The crayons should not be kept in the oven long enough to start bubbling or cooking. If you see this happening, take out the crayons immediately.

Once the crayons have melted, remove the silicone mold from the oven (using an oven mit to protect your hand) and allow it to cool. The shapes must be solid and cool on the outside before you remove them from the mold. If the crayons stick to the mold, place the mold in the freezer for an hour and the crayons will pop out easily. Happy molding!

Now you can keep your pumpkin crayons for your own collection, give them away as goodie bag gifts or use them to create new drawings and artwork!
